Strategic Objectives of the Coalition of Somali Human Rights Defenders (CSHRD):
1. Human Rights Protection and Promotion:
– Strengthen the protection and promotion of human rights across Somalia by advocating for adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights standards.
– Provide support and capacity-building to human rights defenders to effectively document and respond to human rights violations.
2. Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution:
– Foster peacebuilding initiatives and conflict resolution strategies that promote social cohesion and mitigate violence.
– Engage in dialogue and mediation efforts to resolve conflicts and build sustainable peace within communities.
3. Sustainable Development and Good Governance:
– Promote the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on reducing poverty, gender equality, decent work, reduced inequalities, and strong institutions (SDGs 1, 5, 8, 10, 16 and 17).
– Advocate for transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance structures that uphold the rule of law and democratic principles.
4. Humanitarian Response and Resilience Building:
– Enhance the capacity of civil society organizations to respond effectively to humanitarian crises, ensuring that aid reaches the most vulnerable populations.
– Support resilience-building initiatives that strengthen communities’ ability to withstand and recover from disasters and conflicts.
5. Education and Awareness-Raising:
– Conduct public awareness campaigns and educational programs to increase understanding and respect for human rights and humanitarian principles.
– Develop and disseminate resources and training materials to educate communities about their rights and responsibilities.
6. Advocacy and Policy Influence:
– Engage with national and international policymakers to advocate for laws and policies that protect human rights and promote sustainable development.
– Collaborate with international human rights and humanitarian organizations to amplify advocacy efforts and influence global human rights agendas.
7. Civil Society Empowerment and Networking:
– Strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations through training, mentorship, and resource provision to enhance their effectiveness in human rights and humanitarian work.
– Facilitate networking and coalition-building among civil society organizations to foster collaboration and collective action.
8. Monitoring and Evaluation:
– Establish robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to assess the impact of CSHRD’s initiatives and ensure continuous improvement.
– Regularly review and update strategic objectives to align with evolving human rights, peacebuilding, development, and humanitarian needs in Somalia.
9. Forging robust Networking for HRDs collaborating in Somalia and engaging in human rights and humanitarian diplomacy to ensure human rights and human dignity are respected through justice and accountability.
