The Coalition of Somali Human Rights Defenders (CSHRD)

Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) since August 2023

Vision
To build a just, inclusive, and peaceful Somalia where the rights and dignity of every individual are respected, protected, and fulfilled without discrimination.

Mission
To strengthen the protection, advocacy, and capacity of human rights defenders (HRDs) in Somalia through coordinated action, research, legal support, and strategic engagement with local, regional, and international mechanisms. CSHRD is committed to amplifying the voices of the marginalized and holding duty bearers accountable.

Guiding Principles
The work of CSHRD is firmly rooted in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • SDG 1 – No Poverty

  • SDG 5 – Gender Equality

  • SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities

  • SDG 13 – Climate Action

  • SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

Through collaborative action, evidence-based advocacy, and grassroots empowerment, CSHRD works to promote human rights and civic space across Somalia and the Horn of Africa.
